Your Engagement is your level of connection with your life and work. It’s how enthusiastic you are about the day ahead and how much of a sense of fulfilment you feel at the end of the day. Do you miss your work when you’re not able to do it? Are you working in environments and with people who bring out the best in you? Without a good level of Engagement, you can feel bored or distracted, with little impetus to achieve more. You might feel like quitting because you can’t face it any more, rather than quitting because you want to pursue an exciting new opportunity.
A strong sense of Engagement sounds like:
- ‘I’m really excited about what I’m going to be doing today. This is my dream job.’
- ‘I genuinely enjoy spending time with my colleagues.’
- ‘I like talking with my friends outside of work about the stuff I do for a living.’
A weak sense of Engagement sounds like:
- ‘Oh no, Monday morning again. Tuesday morning again. Wednesday morning again.’
- ‘I can’t think of anything much that I’m proud of doing in my work.’
- ‘It’s just a job. [Checks watch] Is it nearly time to go home yet? Just waiting for the clock to get round to the top of the hour.’
