Your Identity is your sense of self. It’s who you are, what you stand for and the issues that are important to you. It encompasses what your strengths are and the situations in which you excel. Your Identity is reflected in how others perceive you and whether that chimes with how you feel about yourself.
A strong sense of Identity sounds like:
- ‘I’m doing the job I love and I choose to be right here doing exactly this.’
- ‘I’m not surprised I enjoy my job because I’m doing things I’m really good at.’
- ‘I knew what was going to come up in my performance review – both the good and the bad!’
A weak sense of Identity sounds like:
- ‘I don’t really know what kind of job I should be doing.’
- ‘I don’t understand why I find my job so difficult and frustrating.’
- ‘I was really surprised that my team think I’m a micromanager – maybe I’m just a terrible boss.’
